Windsor Community Playhouse (WCP) has been Windsor’s community theatre since 1981 and we were in preparations for a monumental 40th season when this pandemic hit. Like all theatres, we had to suspend our current season for an indeterminate time. We can not thank you, our business sponsors, our season ticket holders, our audiences and our community, enough for your patience and understanding as all of us work together to get to the other side of this unfortunate situation. Nonetheless, we need help.
As you know, we are a nonprofit 501(c)(3) theatre run entirely by volunteers. For the past four decades, community members, artists, businesses, and theatre goers have given of their time, their talent, and their support for live theatre and entertainment opportunities in Windsor. At WCP, we strive to produce quality shows catered to the tastes of our audiences and the community we serve while being a good steward of funds our supporters afford us. We have a track record of bringing a rich variety of quality theatrical productions to this region. We are so proud to have you as a valued part of our family and for all of us to be a valued part of yours.
Although “work” of the theatre is completed by volunteers, the reality of WCP’s situation is that it takes roughly $1,500 per month to pay the theatre’s mortgage, maintain proper insurance, and keep the lights on – something we successfully do under normal circumstance. However, now that we are unable to produce season shows or fundraising productions for an indeterminate amount of time, we are using the last of the little reserves we have to hold on to our theatre home.
We believe community theatre is important for Windsor and our region. We believe Windsor Community Playhouse plays an important role in this community. We entertain, we educate, we provide a home for developing and showcasing local talent, we offer an intergenerational approach to theatre, we promote cultural growth and mutual enjoyment through live theatre for the benefit of all, and we invite everyone to participate. WCP is truly “your” community theatre. We believe the next show and our future seasons must go on, but we need your help and support to do so. Specifically, we are asking for your help to keep WCP financially solvent until we are allowed to reopen. We have set up a way for you to donate by purchasing “No Show” tickets on our ticketleap ticketing site to fund the theatre’s monthly fixed expenses. If you can help keep WCP financially intact until we have the ability to reopen, we are most grateful.
Please know, our volunteers continue to work diligently and rehearsals are continuing so we will be ready to open a show as soon as bans are lifted and the curtain is allowed open. We’re working on ways to produce not only live shows, but virtual and streaming experiences through the use of technology as well. We are working to adapt the theatre space to be able to bring you entertainment in ways to accommodate all theatre goers – whatever one’s individual comfort level for enjoying our shows may be in the future. We can not wait to see you again at the theatre, but most importantly, we want to be there for you!
